Minna-Rita Luka, the mother tongue sensor of the Student Qualifications Board, tells us how to read the material and what it is worth paying attention to when constructing the answer in the student’s matriculation test.

1. Make use of materials to support thinking

In the literacy test, the material is not read in the same way as in the literacy test. They are not detailed or analyzed in detail, but are utilized to support one’s own thinking, just as in the case of textbooks or textbooks.

– The use of material means that, for example, data, ideas and perspectives are extracted from the material to support or base their own reflection. The material is the author’s support material. There is no need to come up with everything, Minna-Riitta Luukka describes.

Using the material does not mean repeating the material. The author must have something to say about the material, as the main part is the author’s own reflection. So the purpose is not only to refer to the material but to think about things or to comment on the ideas presented in the texts.

It is impossible to give precise instructions on how much material should be used or how many times they should be referenced. The material can be utilized in very different ways.

– Building good and thoughtful text is often done with little material references. For example, a few facts or thoughts can help with the material. Someone can talk to another material for a long time and use only one piece of information or ideas.

2. Decide on a reflection or take a stand

The aim of the literacy test is to create a loud text. It can be built in many different ways. The text can be thoughtful, present different perspectives, or it can take a stand. These are not mutually exclusive things. Often, the statement also requires reflection. However, when designing text, you should decide what kind of text you are doing and how to build it.

– The reflective and supporting text is built in slightly different ways. If you decide to make a supporting text, you should think about where the position is to be presented. You can do it at the beginning or end, for example. The most important thing is to make your own position clear. For example, the reflective text may focus on weighing up different perspectives, opinions, or causal relationships without the author himself taking the matter.

Luukka points out that the decision on whether to make a reflective or supporting text should be made first. First, you should get to know the material and think about what thoughts they raise. At the design stage of the text, ideas can emerge that will start to build on your own stock.

However, it is important to bear in mind the writing process whether you have decided to consider the matter or to comment on it. In this way, consistency is maintained from the beginning to the end.

3. Find ideas from the material

If in the experiment you find yourself in a situation where the head strikes a blank and does not find anything to say about the given themes, you should turn to the material.

– Take a deep breath and get to know the materials. They will definitely become thoughts and ideas. Idea, collect your thoughts, draw, make lists or mind maps. It is hard for me to imagine that we would do an experiment that no one would have to say.

The tasks of the experiment are loose, which also enables the twisting and turning of given themes and perspectives.

– There is room for the student’s own choices and various solutions are possible.

4. Do not oppress plagiarism

Luke emphasizes the importance of ethical rules in the native language test. They are punished with the strictest deductions.

– Under no circumstances should the text be copied directly from the material, and the points from the material must always be clearly marked.

Technically, reference to the source material can be done in many different ways and there is no one way to do it. More important than technology is that the reference is clear. It should show what material is being referred to and what is the author’s own reflection and what comes from the material.

5. Practice the discovery of perspectives

From an insightful point of view, you can impress the sensor. If you find it difficult to come up with perspectives, it is worth practicing their ideas when preparing for the experiment. Minna-Riitta Luukka gives an example of an exercise that can be used to train perspectives.

– Imagine yourself with an ardor and inventing a subject, for example, postgraduate studies. Think about how you could giggle the cube to deal with the subject from a different perspective. Which of the following directions can you go on to study and what does it affect?

Perhaps the first thing that comes to mind is the student’s own perspective and preferences. But there are many other possibilities. Often the first invented perspectives also come to mind for many others and are therefore not the most original. It is advisable to continue looking at the perspectives at least on every page of the package and you can continue it as long as you want. In addition to the individual’s perspective, the issue can be weighed on, for example, society, the labor market, the economy, future skills needs or internationalization.

6. Remember the last filing

In the writing test, it is worthwhile to invest in text quality and text quality. That is why the final text editing phase is very important. When the text is ready, read it again.

– You should keep a small break before going to the final delivery stage. Try to read the text as with the outside eye.

Pay attention to the style of the text – the aim is to write text in style and in general language. Check if the spelling and spelling of the text is correct. Make sure you understand all the points or whether something else needs to be clarified. Luukka believes that the six-hour probationary period is well suited for the finalization of the text.
